What are your ways of motivating yourself when you've reached a plateau in your training?

Posted by Kara Kask at September 29. 2008

How do you motivate yourself when there is a lull in your forward progress? I know that for me it is sometimes hard to keep my motivation to come out and ride to the same extent when I feel that I've gotten in rut. I usually try to take a little time to just enjoy my horse, go on trail rides, give him baths, and generally just playing around with my horse and not thinking about my training. It seems to work to remind myself of the reason that I started to ride when I was a kid, that it was fun and there was no pressure to accomplish anything. What do you when this happens to you? Do you have tricks that make riding fun again? What keeps you going in your training? Do you ever need a break from your training?
