April 26th, 2008, Goteborg, Sweden--- The Scandinavium Arena was packed with enthusiastic fans that more closely ressembled an Islander's hockey game in the US than a horse show. People screamed out their favorites riders' names as they rode into the competition arena and the crowd had to quiet themselves several times to save their riders' horses' sanity. Collective gasps filtered through the auditorium as horses cleared huge oxers and tight combinations and groans rumbled out of mouth's when rails dropped, sometimes rattling the horses nerves and effecting the next jumps. The emotion in the air was palpable as the Swedish riders gave their best, with the fans exploding into thunderous applause when a clear round was earned by a home town favorite.
Thirty four riders from all over the globe, including US riders Richard Spooner in the irons on his Holsteiner Ace, Peter Wylde on Campino, Margie Engle aboard Hidden Creek's Cuervo Gold, Lauren Hough on Casadora and Danielle Torano on Marlo. Seven riders made it to the Jump Off with Judy-Ann Melchior unfortunately being thrown at the FEI vertical.
SporthorseTV will be publishing individual Round 1 rides in the next week or two.
